Known for its many live-performance theaters, Branson, MO, sits on the shores of Lake Taneycomo (Ozark Indian for “Come and Leave Your Money”).
We motored down from Kansas City and setup camp at the Jellystone Resort in Forsyth, MO, a few miles outside of town. On the way, we passed Lambert’s Cafe in Ozark. Unable to resist a taste of the familiar and the opportunity to catch some “throwed rolls,” we drove the 40 minutes back to Ozark after checking in.
A “throwed roll” beats the snot out of the $5 popover in Bar Harbor. If you are not familiar with Lambert’s you can also check them out in Foley, AL, if you ever venture to the Gulf Shores area.
Obviously travel weary, we agreed to attend a Wyndham “this is not a timeshare” presentation in exchange for free tickets to Moses at the Sight and Sound Theater. This 240 minute “2 hour presentation” took all morning, but we managed to beat off five different salesmen and leave with our free tickets.
Moses wowed with a three-stage show, providing an entertainment factor that managed to exceed the very high annoyance factor of the not-a-timeshare shakedown.
Across the lower 48, we looked for a Segway tour that would accommodate kids. Nearly all had an age limit L did not meet. We almost succeeded in St. Augustine, but the tour operator closed for the week due to a family emergency. Branson delivered. Segway Adventures offers a quick tutorial and Segway time on their track in five-minute increments. We hopped on and were zipping around in no time. Fun!
During our stay, M turned __ years old.
We celebrated with a Duck Ride.
M and L quacked their way through the local hills.
On our way to Table Rock Lake, we toured some WWII era vehicles and took in the scenery.
Soon we were splashing into the lake and enjoying a cruise.
A trip to Branson Landing, where we enjoyed some tasty Mexican food, capped the day.
Branson entertained, but we were excited to move on and make a historic trip through the Arkansas Ozarks and into Oklahoma.
I’ve always wanted to try a Segway! Cool!
