Travel is the enemy of the same – cabermj
Blue skies over Diamond Caverns heralded our first full day on the road.
M3 and L could not resist the draw of the RV park mini golf course so we knocked it out before it got too hot sweated through 18 holes despite the early hour. I forget who won, but I will say the course had seen better days and was not well suited for those of us actually inclined to line up a put.
Fresh off the course, the kids knuckled down at Mammoth Cave National Park and earned their Junior Ranger badge while waiting for our tour.
Our appointed tour time finally arrived and we descended into the depths of Mammoth Cave. At a cool 54 degrees, the Cave provided welcomed relief from the afternoon heat.
Mammoth Cave is the largest cave system in the world with over 400 miles of charted passageways. We hiked 2 miles as part of the Historic Tour, learning about geology and the history of the cave. The experience received a thumbs up from the more demanding critics.
An early post-cave dinner at Turtlelini’s in Horse Cave, KY, proved better than anticipated.
Stormy skies greeted us today. Fortunately, we had planned to tour the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. [no pictures permitted inside]
With weather alerts sounding, we eagerly walked the length of the factory watching the assembly of one of the world’s fastest production cars. Cool.
The skies cleared and a terrific sunset along with an evening walk capped a great day.
We are now living our lives vicariously thru you folks. Great post!
This was a truly fun part of our trip so far.
